Varadkar says the government is clamping down on illegal immigration

According to the Taoiseach, the government is stepping up measures to deal with individuals who enter Ireland unlawfully rather than tightening immigration laws, reports Breaking News.

According to Leo Varadkar, their objective is anyone attempting to “abuse the generosity” of the Irish system.

The leader of Fine Gael claimed that a government response was necessary since the number of people requesting international protection has multiplied tenfold, reports Breaking News.

Speaking at a Dublin event, Mr. Varadkar added that although the State has promised to tighten down on illegal immigration, he could not certain that the number of immigrants would go down.

Protests at locations across Ireland designated to host asylum seekers have increased, reports Breaking News.
