Varadkar: So far there is no evidence that the virus levels are low enough to ease the restrictions on May 5

As the week goes on, it’s looking increasingly likely that Ireland will not be coming out of its lockdown on May 5th and that two more weeks of hefty restrictions are on the cards, possibly even more.

We’ll all know for sure what the HSE and government are going to do when a press conference is held on Friday afternoon.

The Taoiseach told the cabinet that so far there is no evidence that the virus levels are low enough to ease the restrictions on May 5, a government spokesman said.

The Minster for Health Simon Harris repeated this opinion to his ministerial colleagues.

The National Public Health Emergency Team will review the current restrictions this Friday ahead of a cabinet meeting later that afternoon.

The cabinet meeting also included an update from Harris on Covid-19’s progress in the country, current position in screening and testing, and position in long-term care facilities.

It’s believed that the Cabinet’s views have divided TDs on the easing of restrictions on Covid-19.
