Varadkar wants you to vote Yes and warns of ‘red herrings’ during referenda campaigns

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has issued a warning, stating that some may try to deceive voters by using the impending referendum on family rights as a “red herring,” reports Breaking News.

On March 8, there will be two referendums to change the Irish Constitution.

The first referendum will consider whether to amend the Constitution to include “durable” relationships in the concept of family, in addition to those based only on marriage, reports Breaking News.

The second is whether to remove a statement on women’s roles and responsibilities in the house and insert a new item requiring the State “to strive to support” families’ caregiving efforts.

Speaking at the beginning of Fine Gael’s campaign to urge a yes vote on both amendments, Mr. Varadkar said that every referendum campaign had “red herrings.”

Speaking in Dublin on Monday, he said: “There are going to be people who try to make the referendum about something that it is not actually about,” reports Breaking News.
