According to the Minister for Justice, GardaĆ are making “very good progress” in identifying those involved in a dispute that resulted in a man being fatally stabbed in Dublin city centre yesterday morning, reports RTE.

Quam Babatunde is the local name for the 34-year-old man who was stabbed on South Anne Street.

He was one of the first IPAS inmates to be housed at the Ballyogan IPAS housing complex, according to a statement sent to the tenants by the administration, reports RTE.

It said: “In light of this sad event, anyone who has been affected, IPAS has put in place support for both residents and staff to be able to get through this difficult time. Our sincere condolences go out to his friends and family and anyone who knew him in Ballyogan,” reports RTE.

It is believed that the event happened when two groups of individuals out socialising got into a fight.

Jim O’Callaghan stated that individuals are “not allowed to carry knives in Ireland,” and he called yesterday’s event “disgusting” when appearing on RTƉ’s This Week program.

“We’re not going to allow ourselves to develop into a society where young men are carrying knives and it’s completely unacceptable. Carrying knives and acts of violence on the street are not acceptable in Ireland,” reports RTE.

When the event was reported to the GardaĆ after three in the morning, the man was discovered seriously injured and not responding. After receiving treatment on the spot, he was transported to St. James’s Hospital, where he was subsequently declared deceased.

Another man in his 30s was hurt in the event and is receiving treatment for non-life-threatening wounds, reports RTE.

“The fatality and violence occurred” when “a row developed out onto the street” between patrons of a nightclub, according to the Fianna FĆ”il TD.

“The people involved need to know that they’ll be tracked down by An Garda SĆochana and brought to justice. That type of violence is unacceptable in this city and in this country and the people involved in this will be brought to justice,” he said, adding gardaĆ have “excellent” CCTV footage of the incident, reports RTE.
