Victims of crime in Ireland demand answer from government over “ineffective” Probation and Prison Service management as new report reveals reoffending rate of 48% within one year of being released

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has released a shocking new report showing that 48% of prisoners re-offend with just 12 months of being released.

Two out of every three criminals jailed reoffend in the first year of release and end up back in prison.

The report also finds that this recidivism rate rises to 62% within three years with Women were more likely to reoffend within three years than men.

According to the Sun, CSO statistician Felix Coleman said “The data also indicates that younger age groups of released individuals continue to be more likely to reoffend, with more than 83 per cent of released individuals aged less than 21 at the time of leaving prison reoffending within three years.”

This is causing the Irish community to ask the obvious question; Why is the recidivism rate so high and is the Irish Justice system failing prisoners and their victims?

With every crime there is a victim.
These figures show a shocking failure in the Irish Justice system but our politicians seem to be oblivious to law in order and protecting the Irish community.
