Thousands of people are attending vigils throughout the country today so that they can commemorate Ashling Murphy, and offer support to her family.

According to RTE, Ms Murphy, who was murdered in Tullamore on Wednesday afternoon, will also be remembered at vigils all over the world including London, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Brisbane.

Gardai investigating the matter say they are waiting to interview a person and have carried out a number of searches. They have reassured the public that they will find the perpetrator of this horrific crime and have once again asked the public to come forward with any information they have that might bring the killer to justice

5000 people attended a walk and vigil in Cork, where the director of Cork Sexual Violence Centre, Mary Crilly, said that women must be kept safe in Ireland and we need to work on the culture to make sure they are no longer at risk.

More vigils are planned and the family have thanked the public for their ongoing support.
