Body scanners and X-ray machines could soon be a common feature at the entrance of Leinster House, according to new proposals for beefed-up security for our elected representatives.
Proposed plans include a new policy for searching all visitors, but TDs are concerned that this may lead to long queues, as there are quite large groups visiting at times.
Such security arrangements are common in other government and sensitive buildings around the world, like Westminster in the UK, and parliament buildings elsewhere.
