A volcano has erupted near Iceland’s capital, causing quakes and lava flows.

The Fagradalsfjall mountain, situated just 20 miles south-west of Iceland’s capital Reykjavik, began erupting earlier today.

A ‘code red’ warning has been issued temporarily, preventing aircraft from flying over the area.
