The Wagner mercenary group is to leave the Bakhmut area following staggering losses inflicted by Ukrainian operators and compounded by a severe lack of ammunition.
The group’s boss, Yevgeny Prigozhin, made the announcement during an expletive-laden tirade published on social media.
He confirmed that the group, under his command and when faced with a determined Ukrainian resistance, has sustained tens of thousands of casualties for little to no territorial gain.
The Wagner group, its strength almost fully depleted by Ukrainian courage and lead, will leave Bakhmut on May 10. This move will leave the Russian flank completely exposed and vulnerable.
