Warning to holidaymakers, as extreme heat in southern Europe sparks health warnings

You may be searching for the sun elsewhere these days, but beware of extreme temperatures raging across southern Europe.

The thermometer has reached a scorching 47C in some parts of southern Spain and France, with temperatures in the high 40s registered in Italy, Poland, Albania, and other areas around the Mediterranean Sea. In total, 26 European cities have issued health warning to tourists and locals.

The culprit of this heatwave is a mass of hot air currently blowing from Africa across the Mediterranean.

The extreme heat is expected to last until Monday at least, so take due precautions if you are travelling to any of these destinations.
