Water charges could be completely abolished this week as a number of opposition TD’s will submit a new motion in the Dail calling for a complete end to the ‘politically dead charges’

The future of the much hated water charges will hang in the balance this week as a number of opposition TD’s will submit a motion that will call for the scrapping of water charges immediately.

The new motion which is supported by Sinn Féin and a number of other TD’s will reportedly go before the Dail this Wednesday, however it still remains unclear whether or not Fianna Fáil TD’s will support the motion.

The water charges which are currently suspended after Fianna Fail and Fine Gael historic agreement will come in further criticism as a total of 39 TD’s from the Right to Change banner wil call for the complete abolishment of the charges.

According to Sinn Féin’s Eoin O’Broin: “The latest figures from Irish Water clearly demonstrate that people are opposed to paying this unfair tax.” “We expect all the TDs elected on the anti-water charges platform to vote in favour of this motion.

“We also expect the Government to respect the democratic will of the people and to scrap this charge.”
