The Government have confirmed that water pressure in some regions could be lowered at night time in order to conserve water supplies.

According to RTÉ News, the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government Eoghan Murphy said water pressure proposals are being considered in order to prevent water shortages this coming September.

Mr Murphy who was speaking on the Drivetime programme also said a significant amount of rainfall is required in the coming weeks in order to replenish supplies and given the current weather outlook this scenario seems unlikely.

The Minister for Housing also revealed that the current hosepipe ban could be extended until August or possibly September in an effort to conserve water supplies.
