We haven’t enough money: State can’t afford to pay full allowance to carers, Social Protection Minister says

Dara Calleary has stated that the State does not have the financial capacity to provide a full allowance to every carer, reports Breaking News.

Earlier on Wednesday, TDs discussed a motion put forward by the Social Democrats, which called for the removal of the means test associated with the Carer’s Allowance.

Minister Calleary confirmed that the Government will not oppose the motion by the Social Democrats but pointed out that eliminating the means test would add an additional €600 million annually to State expenditure, reports Breaking News.
