According to the Garda Commissioner, public information sparked the development of the current lines of investigation into the death and disappearance of schoolboy Kyran Durnin, reports RTE.

According to Drew Harris, gardaí have been “inundated” with information on the case, which has resulted in several leads and follow-up enquiries.

According to him, they were gathering further information about the suspects and preparing to present a case to the Director of Public Prosecutions, reports RTE.

In August, Kyran, who was six years old when he was last seen alive, went missing from his Drogheda home.

In October, the Gardaí said they were treating Kyran as missing assumed dead and escalated their missing person’s case to a murder inquiry, reports RTE.

Detectives believe Kyran may have been slain more than two years ago, even though the missing person investigation started in August.

Commissioner Harris stated that the inquiry is focused on the months of May 2022 and that he does not consider Kyran to be eight years old, but rather a youngster who passed away at the age of six, reports RTE.

According to him, the gardaí are attempting to ascertain Kyran’s whereabouts following the last verified sighting and how they may proceed from there.

In order to determine where and how Kyran’s corpse “has been disposed of,” Mr. Harris stated that they were searching a property in Drogheda using heavy machinery and a cadaver dog.

The second day of the search for the home at a housing development and the grounds that surround it in Drogheda, County Louth, has begun, reports RTE.

Overnight, this property was under search warrant, and uniformed gardaí guarded the search site.

With assistance from the Garda National Technical Bureau, Divisional Scene of Crime, and Forensic Science Ireland, the local garda divisional search team is conducting the search.

The goal of this operation, according to the Gardaí, is to locate any evidence that might tell them where Kyran is or what happened to him, reports RTE.

Yesterday, a mini-digger was lifted into the property’s rear garden using a telescopic loader. Today’s excavations will probably concentrate on this land.

Meanwhile, a man is still being interrogated at a garda station in the country’s east on suspicion of killing the kid, reports RTE.

He is being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, which permits him to be questioned for up to 24 hours, after being apprehended yesterday morning.

It is yet unknown, though, if the man’s imprisonment was halted for the night so he could get some rest, reports RTE.
