It’s an absolutely disaster for Micheal Martin – he singlehandedly pushed Jim Gavin as much as he could to be the Fianna Fail representative of the Fianna Fail party in the upcoming General Election, and now Gavin has been forced to pull out.
Fianna Fail members are already blaming Micheal Martin and are querying when is the right time to make a move to try and get rid of him as leader of the party, given his horrendous decision make lack of ability.
The Taoiseah Micheal Martin says the he understands, accepts and believes that Jim Gavin’s decision to pull out of the Presidential race is a correct decision to make.
Martin says that he understands that Gavin accepts he made an error in relation to an issue that has arisen and the he accepts that error and has to pull out of the Presidential race as a result.
The whole thing is completely backfiring on Micheal Martin, who had pushed Gavin like his life depended it.
Jim Gavin’s entire Presidential campaign was one mistake, gaff and blunder after another. He stood basically no chance of being elected and has finally pulled out.
The Fianna Fail party is said to be in absolute disarray over the whole debacle, with many blaming the Taoiseach Micheal Martin for promoting Gavin in the first place.
According to RTE, Gavin said “I made a mistake that was not in keeping with my character and the standards I set myself. I am now taking steps to address the matter.
“I have also thought long and hard about the potential impact of the ongoing campaign on the wellbeing of my family and friends.
“Taking all these considerations on board, I have decided to withdraw from the presidential election contest with immediate effect and return to the arms of my family.”
Mr. Gavin is investigating claims that he owes a former tenant €3,300, stating he lacks full details on the issue. The dispute, reported by the Irish Independent, involves a former tenant and coincides with a period of financial hardship for Mr. Gavin’s family.
Between 2007 and 2009, a couple renting Mr. Gavin’s apartment in the north inner city continued to pay rent via standing order due to a banking error, even after canceling it. The tenant informed the newspaper that €3,300 was mistakenly paid to Mr. Gavin and requested acknowledgment of the error and a refund.
