Hundreds of farmers gathered in Dublin today to protest falling food prices.

The farmers gathered outside of the EU commissioners office, Mount St. Dublin to launch a desperate appeal to the EU to intervene and protect farm incomes.

Farmers from all sectors gathered together to stand in solidarity, along with a cow, pigs and a trailer of grain.

The farmers businesses are facing collapse due to higher production costs, price volatility and the Russian import ban.

IFA president Eddie Downey has also appealed to EU Agriculture Commissioner Phil Hogan to safeguard the incomes of farming families in the current climate.

This protest is one of many across the EU in the lead up to a major gathering in Brussels next week during a meeting of Agriculture Ministers.
