Weather alert: Temps to nosedive this week with possibilities of snow in places

Motorists have been advised to extra vigilant this week as temperatures are set to plummet with Met Eireann saying that there’s a distinct possibility that Ireland could see its first snowfall of winter 2019 occurring this week.

This past weekend saw bitterly cold temperatures hovering around 2 and 3c.

Today will be wet and sub-zero temperatures might lead to sleet and light snow falls on Monday night.

The north and west of the country will see the worst of the weather on Monday, with heavy showers that might turn wintry on high ground moving onto Tuesday.

The national forecaster says that the outlook is for freezing cold conditions tomorrow looking likely to have showers but will be mostly in the north with good dry and sunny periods for the rest of the country.

Wednesday will will initially by dry but rain will move in from the west later in the day. With low afternoon temperatures, the rain could turn to sleet or snow on higher ground, Met Eireann say.
