Winter 2019 is beginning to bite, with Met Eireann forecasting that heavy rain is likely to turn into snow and sleet later today due to freezing temperatures.
The national forecast has issued a weather warning covering Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Wicklow, Offaly and Tipperary. The warning kicks in at 2pm today and will remain in place until 2am on Thursday.
The outlook is for very wet and cold day across the country for the next 48 hours, with temperatures dropping to below zero after dark.
