Weather warning issued to drivers as temperatures plunge to -4

Motorists are being urged to take extreme care on the roads tonight as the winter weather intensifies.

Met Eireann have issued a status orange weather warning – their second highest – for nationwide fog:

“There will be widespread fog overnight that will be dense in many places.

“There is also a risk of some pockets of freezing fog also.”
Temperatures are expected to plummet to as low as -4c tonight.

Sunday is expected to be mainly dry, but cloudy. Some light showers are expected to develop around the coastal areas.”

Daytime temperatures will reach no higher than 10C, with mainly light easterly breezes.

On Sunday night, patchy frost and fog are due to return.
