We’ll arrest them – Gardai issue stern warning to public to stay indoors over the Easter bank holiday

Gardai say that they’ll be out in force this Easter weekend and may, if necessary, arrest people if they are caught out for unnecessary reasons.

Gardai have said that they’ll be out manning checkpoints across the country this Easter weekend and that people cannot breach the lockdown restrictions.

Speaking this week, Commissioner Drew Harris said that gardai now have the legal power to arrest people if they’re breaching the lockdown measures of going more than 2km from their home for exercise, going to essential work or to the supermarket or pharmacy.

Gardai say that they will enforce the new power if necessary and that people could get a fine of up to €2,500 or up to 6 months in jail.
