“We’ll seize the summer” – and prepare for another wave next winter 2022, says Varadkar

It appears as though the draconian restrictions imposed on the Irish people aren’t going away anytime soon, if ever! The power grab by the government is now looking likely to be extended well into winter 2022, claims Tanaiste Leo Varadkar.

Varadkar suggested that the Covid-19 pandemic could continue into winter 2022, declaring that we need to “seize the summer” while preparing for a possible resurgence of yet another wave – which would inevitably see further restrictions.

This comes Micheal Martin announced new restrictions after the emergence of the new Omicron variant.

The Taoiseach addressed the nation with new restrictions on the hospitality and entertainment sectors where he said he understands “the disappointment and frustration that this will cause”.

Martin said it is “not about going back to the days of lockdowns” but about adjusting the guidelines to the current threat from the virus.

NPHET’s demands were met and are in place from next Tuesday, December 7th until January 9th.

Under the new draconian restrictions, nightclubs will close with bars, restaurants and hotels all in the firing line now too.

Tables are limited to six people and no multiple bookings will be allowed with closing time set at midnight.

There is to be a maximum of 50% capacity at indoor entertainment and sporting events with covid certs required for gyms, leisure centres, and hotel bars and restaurants.
