Martin: Only table service at bars and restaurants with VERY strict social distancing

The Taoiseach announced that nightclubs will close and bars and restaurants will be restored to current restrictions by October 22, with managers and owners saying that their businesses are now finished as a result.

Micheal Martin said the government had received strong advice from the national public health emergency team demanding the reintroduction of a series of restrictions to contain the spread of Covid-19.

“The risks associated with proceeding into the Christmas period without some restrictions to reduce the volume of personal contacts is just too high,” Martin said.

He said strict social distancing was required in all bars and restaurants, including hotels.

There will only be table service in bars and restaurants and the distance between the tables must be one meter.

There can be a maximum of six adults per table and reservations for multiple tables are not permitted.

As part of the measures, masks must be worn outside the table and the closing time of the room remains midnight. Indoor events, including concerts, concerts and sporting events, can only reach 50% of their capacity.
