The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has issued an apology on behalf of the Government to the women and families affected by the CervicalCheck scandal.

Speaking in the Dáil on Tuesday, Mr Varadkar said he and the Government whole heartedly apologise for the disrespect and deceit showm towards the women and families affected by the scandal.

In the statement the Taoiseach also apologised for the litany of failures within the CervicalCheck programme for the past number of years.

He added that the Government was sorry for the lives shattered by the scandal and to those whose lives were destroyed by the scandal.
