Molex Ireland has announced that it’s going to close its huge facility in Shannon by the end of 2020, subject to an employee consultation process.
It means that some 500 jobs will be lost in the community. It’s understood that the closure will take place in a number of phases over the course of 2020.
It’s understood that the closure follows a review of the product lines manufactured there and that its Shannon facility have insufficient financial returns and growth potential.
The government have said that they will do what they can to help those who lost their jobs find a new position.
