Western progressives silent after Islamic Republic defends right to execute homosexuals

As per usual Western liberals have remained relatively silent after the Islamic Republic of Iran defended its right to publicly execute people for being homosexuals.

Earlier this week Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Sarif endorsed the execution of gay people which prompted condemnation from the US which accused Iran of violating fundamental human rights.

Minister Sarif made the comments defending the Islamic Republic’s policy of executing gay people to German newspaper Bild after he was asked

“Why are homosexuals executed in Iran because of their sexual orientation?”

To which the minster replied

“Our society has moral principles. And we live according to these principles. These are moral principles concerning the behaviour of people in general. And that means that the law is respected, and the law is obeyed”

Homosexuality is a criminal offense in the vast majority of Muslim countries and punishable by death in several.

The Muslim diaspora in Western countries is also known to be overtly hostile to the LGBTIQCAPGNGFNBA but as Muslims are viewed by Western progressives as an oppressed minority and so worthy of special privileges, they generally keep silent regarding this issue.

The Guardian reported that in 2017 a broad survey of British Muslims found that over half believe homosexuality should be criminalised while nearly a quarter want full Sharia (Islamic Law) imposed as the UK’s law system.

At the time Trevor Phillips, the former head of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, sounded the alarm stating the findings were “extremely worrying” as they suggested on many issues Muslims were “nation within a nation”.
