The app has been the target of several scams throughout its existence, and the latest one doing the rounds has tricked some people into revealing sensitive information.
The latest scam works like this: Users get spam links that appear to have been sent by friends listed on your WhatsApp phonebook.
If you click on the link, you are re-directed to a sort of “discounts” page where you are requested to enter personal information. But in the background, your phone will become infected with a virus that can be used by the perpetrators to retrieve personal details.
In other words, if you get any of these strange looking links, do not click on them.
