Covid-19 is likely here to stay with us as the virus continues to mutate in a number of countries around the world as earlier hopes of eradication dwindle, the World Health Organisation officials say.
“I think this virus is here to stay with us and it will evolve like influenza pandemic viruses, it will evolve to become one of the other viruses that affects us,” Dr. Mike Ryan, executive director of the WHO Health Emergencies Program, said at a press briefing, reports CNBC.
World Health Authority officials have previously said vaccines do not guarantee the world will eradicate Covid-19 like other viruses. Several leading health professionals, including White House Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anthony Fauci, and Stéphane Bancel, CEO of vaccine maker Covid Moderna, warned that the world will have to live with Covid forever, just like the flu.
