Why Not Me? – Eurovision winner Linda Martin is considering running for Preisdent of Ireland

Linda Martin, a former Eurovision winner, has stated that she is “thinking about” running for president in the next election, reports Extra.

As President Michael D. Higgins’s second seven-year tenure draws to a close, the contest to succeed him starts later this year.

Linda’s song “Why Me?” won the 1992 Eurovision contest in Malmo, Sweden, reports Extra.

According to Belfast singer Linda Martin, she has received an invitation from a political party to run for office and is presently “mulling it over.”

On Wednesday, the 72-year-old revealed the information to Oliver Callan on RTÉ Radio 1, reports Extra.

She taunted, “Can you imagine all the dogs in Áras? You’ll have to wait and see now,” reports Extra.

Currently residing in north Dublin, Linda owns 13 rescue dogs and operates a dog sanctuary.

She was given a contract to manage a shelter on behalf of Dublin City Council last year, fulfilling her aim of providing adequate care for mistreated and abandoned dogs, reports Extra.

At the time, Linda told Mail on Sunday that she was “delighted” after a “long road.”

One needs the support of four of the nation’s councils in addition to 20 senators and TDs in order to run for president, reports Extra.

Later in the year, Linda may face UFC star Conor McGregor, but it’s doubtful the fighter will have the necessary support.

Only five far-right candidates, Malachy Steenson (Dublin City), Gavin Pepper (Dublin City), Glen Moore (South Dublin), Patrick Quinlan (Fingal), and Tom O’Donnell (Kildare), were successful at the polls out of the 949 council members that were re-elected in the June local elections, reports Extra.
