A 17-yr-old Somalian teenager has been detained, charged with murdering 17-yr-old Ukrainian Vadym Davydenko at a Tusla emergency residential care unit in north Dublin. The fatal stabbing occurred around 11am Wednesday at a 24-hour facility.
The accused, a minor whose identity is protected, appeared before Judge Treasa Kelly at Dublin District Court. Detective Sergeant Mark Quill reported the teen was charged at Clontarf Garda Station at 3:38 pm and gave no response in the presence of his social worker and an interpreter.
Defence solicitor Andrew Walsh confirmed a Tusla social worker and a court-appointed guardian ad litem attended the hearing. Det Sgt Quill verified a spot at the juvenile detention centre was available.
Judge Kelly granted Walsh’s request for urgent psychiatric and medical care for the teen in custody and a Somali interpreter for the next hearing. The accused was remanded to Oberstown Children Detention Campus and will appear in person at the Children’s Court next Tuesday.
