Big crowds of proud Blessington residents filled The Square on Main Street in Co Wicklow, rallying in a heartfelt display of Irish patriotism to protect their town’s future. The spirited protest, dubbed “West Wicklow Says No,” saw locals march peacefully to oppose a proposed International Protection Accommodation Service (IPAS) centre at the Avon Ri hotel, voicing concerns over community safety and strain on local resources.
Fueled by frustration over rising anti-social behaviour and perceived government overreach, the demonstration drew over 200 participants, according to posts on X, with Irish tricolours waving proudly. Local councillor John Mullen addressed the crowd, declaring, “Wicklow has done its share; it’s time to say no,” as reported by Wicklow News, capturing the community’s resolve to safeguard their heritage. A resident’s voice rang out, “We want our children to grow up safe in Blessington,” per Wicklow News, reflecting fears for future generations.
