Will you get it? HSE demand people get flu and Covid vaccines to avoid pressure on hospitals

To prevent overcrowding in ERs and hospital beds, the HSE is encouraging people to acquire the flu and COVID vaccines, reports Breaking News.

A representative told Morning Ireland on RTÉ radio that the “flu season” is approaching earlier each year and that this year has already seen a significant rise in cases, primarily of Influenza A.

Paracetamol, drinks, and rest are recommended treatments for flu symptoms, which include a high temperature, aches and pains, coughing, and nasal congestion, reports Breaking News.

In order to prevent spreading the infection to others, people should also remain at home for up to 48 hours after they recover.

“People can be unwell for up to five or six days. The best course of action is to stay at home and rest and avoid going to the office or the Christmas party,” the spokesperson said, reports Breaking News.

The spokesman advised that the elderly and those with underlying medical issues, who are most vulnerable to influenza, should receive the free vaccination from their health practitioner or drugstore.

Even those with minor symptoms should avoid high-risk groups and avoid visiting patients in nursing homes or hospitals.

Influenza cases are beginning to appear in emergency rooms and are already affecting the number of hospital beds, reports Breaking News.
