Will you get it? Vaccine centres open following measles outbreak

Next week, from March 25 to 29, in Cork, the HSE will have free walk-in clinics for the MMR vaccine. This is part of their attempts to stop a potential measles outbreak similar to what has occurred in Britain, reports Irish Examiner.

According to the most recent statistics, three additional cases were found in Ireland, and five more are being looked into. With one death already this year, the confirmed total now stands at five.

Children five years old and older, healthcare professionals, anyone born in Ireland on or after January 1978, and those born outside of Ireland who may have also been denied vaccinations are all eligible to visit the clinics.

Michael Hanrahan, specialist registrar in public health medicine said: “Symptoms include high fever, cough, runny nose, and a rash all over the body. In severe cases, it can lead to complications such as pneumonia and brain swelling, which can be life-threatening or cause life-long disabilities,” reports Irish Examiner.
