The health agency HIQA are researching in Ireland to see whether boys as wells as girls should get the controversial HPV vaccine.
The human papillomavirus vaccine is currently only given to girls to help prevent cervical cancer. It’s part of the national immunisation system and was introduced for all girls in first year of secondary school in 2010/11.
The reason why it’s being researched is that other cancers such as anal, genital and throat cancers can affect men and women and thus it may be offered to boys in the near future.
