Universities were once places of learning and where critical thinking was actively promoted and encouraged. With the massive rise in both liberal and socialist ideologies, they have become places where dissenting voices are cancelled, de-platformed, gagged and censored.
But all this censorship of conservative voices by both universities and students unions is about to stop reports the The Times.
Student unions will be legally obliged to protect freedom of speech for the first time and may be taken to court by cancelled speakers.
The new laws will make it easier for academics, students and visiting speakers to take action against universities and student unions and claim compensation if they are cancelled or silenced.
The Times reports that the legislative move follows instances of “no platforming” on campuses and claims that staff have been penalised for expressing controversial opinions.
