A woman has tragically died after falling into an escalator in a shopping centre in China, but not before she managed to save her two year old son by pushing him to safety. The accident can be seen on CCTV footage from the mall in the city of Jingzhou in central China.
The woman, 30-year-old Xiang Liujuan, had reached the top of the escalator when the landing platform she had stepped onto suddenly collapsed, trapping her as the escalator was still moving.
Ms Xiang managed to push her child away before disappearing in the mechanism. Shop assistants at the top of the escalator dragged the boy to safety but they sadly could not manage to pull his mother away.
Ms Xiang was pulled into the moving mechanism and was killed. Her body was not found until four hours later, after the escalator was disassembled.
The incident has caused widespread anger at the department store.
