A woman is accused of “digging” her fingernails into a man’s arms, allegedly causing an infection during a street robbery in Dublin, reports Breaking News.

Diane Travers, 32, who has no fixed address, was denied bail during a weekend sitting of Dublin District Court.

Garda Shane McConkey testified that the charge relates to a robbery on Sycamore Street in Dublin 2, which occurred on May 31st, reports Breaking News.

He opposed bail and explained that around 3:15 a.m., the complainant was walking home after a night out in the city centre. As he turned onto Sycamore Street, he was allegedly followed by a man and the accused. The man reportedly punched him in the back of the head, disorienting him.

The two then dragged the victim into a doorway, where a second man joined in, and they forced him to the ground, reports Breaking News.

The victim dropped his iPhone 15.

One of the male attackers picked it up, and at that point, Ms Travers allegedly “dug her nails into his forearm and attempted to pull his watch off of his wrist.”

The garda said the action caused the victim intense pain, reports Breaking News.

“He attempted to fight back but was overwhelmed when the third male then returned and helped pin him on the ground.”

The court heard the trio allegedly searched the man’s pockets.

The victim screamed for help, and the suspects fled the scene when members of the public approached, reports Breaking News.

It was revealed that someone attempted to use the man’s bank card, which was stored in his phone case, at a store on O’Connell Street. However, the attempt failed as he had already frozen the card.

According to the allegations, the man sustained bruising on both elbows, abrasions on his right forearm, and deep fingernail marks on his left bicep and wrist, reports Breaking News.

He visited a doctor the next day and required a tetanus injection because the deep nail wounds had become infected.

The judge was told he was prescribed antibiotics for several days. He also had to miss work due to his injuries and emotional distress, reports Breaking News.

CCTV footage was collected as part of the investigation.

Defence barrister Kevin McCrave argued that bail could be granted under certain conditions, but the request was denied, reports Breaking News.

The court approved legal aid for Ms Travers, who is set to reappear next week.

She has not yet entered a plea. A decision is still pending on whether the case will remain in the District Court or be sent to the Circuit Court, which can impose more severe penalties, reports Breaking News.
