Woman in her 30s becomes the eleventh person to be arrested in the investigation into attempted murder of PSNI detective

A woman in her 30s has become the eleventh person to be arrested in connection with the attempted murder of PSNI detective John Caldwell in County Tyrone last month, reports The Journal.

She was arrested following a search of a property in the Omagh area and taken to the Omagh Custody Suite for further questioning.

A 45-year-old man arrested in Belfast yesterday in connection with the same incident remains in custody.

Nine other men aged between 22 and 75, previously arrested in connection with the attempted murder, were released after questioning.

Chief Inspector John Caldwell was attacked at a sports complex on Killyclogger Road in Omagh just after 8.00pm on 22 February, reports The Journal.

He was putting the ball in the trunk of his car and was accompanied by his young son when the gunmen fired several shots before fleeing the scene.

The investigation into the assassination attempt focused primarily on the New IRA after a typed message appeared on a wall in Derry, allegedly from the organization and claiming responsibility for the attempted assassination of Caldwell.

PSNI investigators have highlighted a £150,000 reward from Crimestoppers for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the attack, reports The Journal.
