
Local authorities have named Darren Quigley, a 30-year-old father of two children, as the man who perished in a deadly assault in Carlow yesterday night, reports RTE.
His brother, parents, and two small children survive him.
Shortly after 11.40 p.m. last night, gardaí arrived at the residence on Market View in the New Oak Estate to investigate an incident, and they found the man seriously injured, reports RTE.
After receiving treatment on the spot, he was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny, where he was subsequently declared deceased.
Shortly after, the Armed Response Unit and local gardaÍ conducted a follow-up operation in Carlow town, where a lady in her 30s was taken into custody, reports RTE.
She is being detained at a Co Carlow garda station.
The State Pathologist has been called, and the scene has been preserved for forensic analysis.
In addition to a Family Liaison Officer, a Senior Investigating Officer has been assigned to oversee the inquiry, reports RTE.
According to the Gardaí, no one else is being sought in relation to the probe.
Any witnesses are urged to call the Carlow Garda Station at 059-9136620, especially if they have dashcam or other camera video from the New Oak Estate or the surrounding regions at the time of the incident, reports RTE.
