A woman in her 30s has died after being involved in car collision with another car which was being chased by Gardai on the M7 last night.
Emergency services quickly arrived on the scene at approximately 8.45pm after they received a 999 call saying that a car had crashed through the toll booth barrier on the M7 near Portlaoise.
It is believed that a Garda squad car was chasing a green Volkswagen Polo, understood to be carrying five people between the ages of 13 and 33. The Volkswagen Polo then rear-ended a Citroen car at the Kildare off ramp.
The driver of the Citroen car was a woman in her late 30s, she tragically died at the scene. It is believed that the five other occupants travelling in the Volkswagen were taken to Naas and Tallaght hospitals. Two members of the Gardai have also been taken to hospital.
A spokesperson for the Garda Ombudsman Commission has said they are currently investigating the crash.
