Woman loses baby when doctor performs abortion after patient files are mixed up

Authorities in South Korea have begun an investigation after a woman mistakenly recieved an abortion after medical personnel reportedly mixed up medical charts.

According to Yonhap, the Vietnamese woman had her six week old baby aborted whilst attending Gagseo medical clinic.

The South Korean news agency reports, the woman attended the clinic to recieve nutritional injections, but she was mistakenly given an anesthesia injection and was therefore unable to confirm her identity.

It is believed that a doctor who was unaware of the woman’s identity proceeded to carry out the abortion on the woman who later returned home.

Following the procedure the woman returned to the clinic to address concerns over bleeding, but she was told that her baby had been aborted.

Meanwhile police have confirmed that a nurse and a doctor are currently under investigation for professional negligence.

Although the country recently legalised abortion, the changes in the law will not be made until December 31st 2020 and under current laws women are only allowed to carry out an abortion in cases such as rape incest or if the mother’s life is in danger.
