A 48-year-old woman has been found alive and well after spending five days lost in the Australian wilderness, surviving on one bottle of wine and some sweets, reports RTE.

According to Victoria Police, Lillian Ip’s car got stuck after taking a wrong turn and hitting a dead end while driving through thick Victorian bush late last month.

Her car got stuck when she tried to reverse and with no cell service, she couldn’t call for help.

An extensive search began after Miss Ip failed to contact her family by April 30, reports RTE.

Finally, on Thursday, May 4, the Victoria Police Air Wing spotted her car at the end of a dirt road in Mitta Mitta bushland.

After being rescued, Miss Ip was taken to hospital for observation and treated for dehydration.

Miss Ip was found “a good 60km away from the nearest town,” Sergeant Martin Torpey said, and due to ill health she was unable to walk to get help.

“She used great common sense to stay with her car and not wander off into bushland, which assisted in police being able to find her,” Victoria Police said in a statement, reports RTE.

“The only liquid Lillian, who doesn’t drink, had with her was a bottle of wine she had bought as a gift for her mother so that got her through,” they added, reports RTE.
