Woman who slipped on Dunnes Stores potato wedge is awarded €23,000

A 60-year-old women who slipped and fell on a potato wedge in Dunnes Stores has been awarded almost €23,000 in the Circuit Civil Court.  Anna Manning injured her back when she fell in the Clondalkin store.

The woman told the court that in November 2011, she had been walking towards the fish section of Dunnes Stores, The Mill Centre, Clondalkin, Dublin, when she slipped on something and fell forward on her hands and knees.

Manning visited her GP the following day complaining of neck and back pain. Circuit Court President Mr Justice Raymond Groarke heard Manning had a history of neck and back pain which had been aggravated by the accident. She had also developed ongoing pain in her wrist.

Manning had suffered of back pain before the accident, but the pain in her wrist was caused by her fall. She sued Dunnes Stores Ltd for negligence. Judge Groarke awarded her €22,900.
