Wonder why? Claims against uninsured drivers rose 11% last year




Last year there was an 11% increase in the number of claims pertaining to accidents caused by drivers who were either uninsured or untraceable, reports RTE.

According to the Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Ireland (MIBI), 1,927 claims were filed in the year, which is 187 more than in 2022.

Cork reported 141 claims, while Dublin recorded 822, the highest number of claims.

Of the 26 counties in the nation, the number of claims involving uninsured drivers increased in 14 of them, reports RTE.

Mayo saw the most percentage gains, rising 80%, while Meath saw the biggest increases, up 55%.

Leitrim has the largest percentage fall in claims—down 55%—among the nine counties where a decline in claims was noted, reports RTE.
