Workforce somewhat relieved as government extends Pandemic Unemployment Payment until at least April 2021

The workforce of Ireland is somewhat relieved after the Pandemic Unemployment Payment remains in place until April 2021, with reductions based on the claimant’s pre-Covid income.

Recipients will see their payment go down to 203 euro a week, and after the 17th of September the scheme will be closed for new applicants.

A new top rate of 300 euro per week, a reduction from the current 350, will be kept for those earning a higher figure during their employment.

In early May, when the crisis was at its peak, almost 600 thousand people were claiming the payment though that figure has now dropped to 313 thousand.
Originally scheduled to end on the 10th of August, the scheme is set to continue as many recipients struggle to find work.
