As the Christmas season starts to get into full flow, one shop in the UK is taking action to make sure their staff enjoy the run-up to the big day as well.

According to the Metro, the directors of the York Gin shop have decided not to play cheesy Christmas pop songs in the store during the busy pre-Christmas period. The move is said to be intended to look after the morale of the staff who will be working in the shop for around eight hours a day and would not want to listen to the same songs over and over again.

Emma Godivala, the store’s director, told the Metro that as the shop is situated in a Tudor building, it wouldn’t suit modern pop songs anyway. She was quick to reassure customers that the shop will be full of Christmas cheer anyway, with lots of traditional Christmas music and hits from Frank Sinatra and other classic singers getting customers and staff in the mood for the big day.

According to the Metro, the shop’s management hope that their unique move will give everyone – staff and customers alike – an original and enjoyable experience as they do their Christmas shopping.
