Russia has warned the US that World War Three will not be limited to Europe and stated that the West is playing with fire by thinking about enabling Ukraine to launch Western weapons far into Russia, reports RTE.
The largest foreign invasion on Russia since World War Two began on August 6 when Ukraine invaded the western Kursk region of Russia, seizing a portion of land. President Vladimir Putin promised that Russia will honourably respond to the attack.
As Putin’s foreign minister for more than 20 years, Sergei Lavrov said that by considering Ukrainian demands to relax restrictions on deploying weapons provided by other countries, the West was “asking for trouble” and attempting to intensify the conflict in Ukraine, reports RTE.
Though he has stated that Russia does not seek a confrontation with the US-led NATO alliance, Mr. Putin has frequently warned of the possibility of a far wider battle including the world’s major nuclear powers since invading Ukraine in 2022.

“We are now confirming once again that playing with fire – and they are like small children playing with matches – is a very dangerous thing for grown-up uncles and aunts who are entrusted with nuclear weapons in one or another Western country,” Mr Lavrov told reporters in Moscow, reports RTE.
“Americans unequivocally associate conversations about Third World War as something that, God forbid, if it happens, will affect Europe exclusively,” Mr Lavrov said, reports RTE.
Russia was “clarifying” its nuclear doctrine, Mr. Lavrov continued.
The president of Russia would contemplate deploying a nuclear weapon, according to its 2020 nuclear doctrine, “when the very existence of the state is put under threat” or in reaction to an assault utilising conventional or nuclear weapons of mass devastation.
Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, stated earlier this month that the attack on the Kursk area of Russia demonstrated that the Kremlin’s threats of reprisal were a farce.
According to Mr. Zelensky, Ukraine was unable to attack some Russian military sites with its arsenal of weaponry due to constraints placed in place by partners. He called on allies to make more audacious choices on how best to support Kyiv throughout the conflict, reports RTE.
According to Russia, Ukraine employed Western weapons in Kursk, notably US missile systems and British tanks. Ukraine has acknowledged that US HIMARS rockets were used to destroy Kursk bridges.
The United States has stated that it was unaware of Ukraine’s preparations before to the unexpected attack on Kursk. Additionally, the US has stated that it was not involved in the operation, reports RTE.
