Worst winter in over half a century could grip the country soon, according to long range forecasters

snow-warnings

So was the stark warning issued by long-range forecast agency exactaweather.com

According to them, the perfect conditions for a prolonged icy period are slowly building up. A mass of much colder than usual Atlantic water will affect the Gulf Stream, which may expose Ireland and other countries to a Siberian wall of freezing northerly winds. Without the warm influence of the Stream, horrific cold conditions may develop, and last a long time.

This is precisely what happened during the winter of 1963/1964. That year, a harsh winter took hold from around Christmas and lasted until Spring. Savage blizzards lashed the country and several people died.
