The U.S, UK and France are all now in agreement on launching an attack on Syria and are rapidly amassing the largest western naval flotilla in the Middle East since the invasion of Iraq in 2003.
Meanwhile all Russian ships have left their port in Syria and are conducting live fire drills off the coast as U.S and other warships approach.
Russian ambassador to the UN, Vassily Nebenzia, has warned that war between the U.S and Russia “cannot be excluded” as a possibility.
Another key player in the region, Israel, continues to press the U.S for a large attack on Syria.
The world waits anxiously for the reaction of Syria’s allies Russia and Iran to a U.S led strike on the country, for its part China has announced snap live fire drills in the Taiwan strait, another flash point for tensions with the U.S
This is being interpreted as show of support from China to its close ally Russia.
Hawks within the Trump administration such as new national security adviser, John Bolton, are pushing hard for a massive and sustained attack however, Russia has warned that if any of its personnel are killed, which is likely in such an attack, it will retaliate forcefully.
