School boom: Department of Education announces plans to open 42 new schools over the next four years 




The Department of Education have confirmed that a total of 42 new schools will be opened over the next four years.

It is believed the decision to open the new schools which will mostly include new schools for Dublin and it surrounding regions, comes as the demand for schools places has increased in reent years.

According to RTE News there will be at least 16 primary and 10 second level schools opened in the Dublin region.

Meanwhile the remaining schools will be opened in counties Cork, Meath, Kildare, Louth, Kilkenny, and Wicklow.   

It is hoped that the vast majority of primary schools allocated for the Dublin region will be opened by the end of 2019.

The Department of Education also say the purpose of opening new schools in these particular region comes as a result of a demographic boom.
