You’ll vote until you get it right! Sinn Fein say they’d re-run care referendum if rejected on 8 March

If Sinn Féin is in government and the amendment is rejected, the party has stated that it would hold another care referendum with harsher language, reports RTE.

The party has begun pushing for two Yes votes in the upcoming family and care referendums on March 8.

However, the party felt the care amendment did not go far enough, so it underwent “detailed deliberation” before deciding to endorse it.

The modification suggests replacing the mention of a woman’s life at home with a statement about the care that family members give to one another, reports RTE.

Mary Lou McDonald, the leader of Sinn Féin, stated that while the proposed change would be a “positive step forward,” “the comprehensive, copper-fastened recognition of care” is still required.

“So yes, we had to weigh that up. In the end we decided not to allow the perfect be the enemy of the good,” she said, reports RTE.
